Over 71,000 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives in the war on Gaza — according to the Gaza Health Ministry. For nearly two years, Israeli officials publicly dismissed these figures as “manipulated” and “inaccurate.”
But now, even Israeli media outlets and sources within the Israeli establishment have acknowledged that the 71,000 figure is broadly in line with reality.
And it gets worse. Independent scientific research published in leading medical journals such as The Lancet suggests that more than 75,000 violent deaths had already occurred by early 2025 — and that’s not even covering the entire duration of the conflict.
Researchers argue that the Gaza Ministry of Health figures likely represent a conservative floor, not an exaggeration. In plain English: 71,000 is the minimum. The baseline. The bedrock estimate. The real number could be significantly higher when accounting for indirect deaths, missing persons, infrastructure collapse, and long-term health impacts.
For much of the war, the Israeli Foreign Ministry rejected Gaza’s reported casualty figures. Now, post-conflict analysis and peer-reviewed research are reshaping the narrative around the true human cost.
Zooming out to geopolitics: history is often written by the winners. Accountability, international law, and war crimes investigations depend heavily on power dynamics. Whether Israel faces legal or political consequences will not just depend on facts — but on regional alignments, global power politics, and the evolving balance between Washington, Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing.
Will there be International Criminal Court proceedings? UN investigations? Sanctions? Or will geopolitical shielding prevail?
This is bigger than numbers. This is about how international law functions in a multipolar world — and whether global institutions still have teeth.
I’ll continue to follow the evidence, the data, and the geopolitics — without the Western spin.
I’m also raising funds this Ramadan for civilians affected by war in Gaza, Yemen, and Sudan. If you can donate even a small amount, I’d genuinely appreciate it. Link in my TikTok bio or video description. Aid access into Gaza remains severely restricted, so support is also directed to crisis zones in Sudan and Yemen where delivery channels are more accessible.
Stay informed. Stay critical. I’ll keep you posted.
